The
National Weather Service had called for on-and-off showers on Saturday, 19
May. However, the threat didn’t deter owners of two dozen vehicles from
appearing at Eckenhoff Cadillac in Jenkintown—and since seven of those
were emeritus cars, that might just have set an all-time record high
percentage among those exhibiting (if anyone has either the records or a
sufficiently long memory to confirm or correct this, please speak up!).
Those exhibiting spanned the latter two-thirds of the 20th
century, ranging from 1931 to 1996. As has become something of the
custom, the showroom was populated by those of greater vintage: namely,
Bud Coleman’s ’40 LaSalle, Andy Jacoby’s
’39 V-16 imperial limousine, and Woody Rohrbach’s
’31 V-12 roadster. Sidebar: Andy Jacoby should get the
day’s “I need to be triplets” award, since he exhibited no fewer than
three, count ‘em, three vehicles!
He set the bar on getting an “A” for effort.
To
crown the day: Woody Rohrbach achieved well-deserved emeritus status with
his ’31 V-12 roadster!
Those competing for trophies did not disappoint in style and
presentation. It was a day for first- and second-place finishes, due
largely to the achievements of the owners of the competing vehicles—so
much so, in fact, that the 3rd place trophies en bloc
were tucked away for another time!
