Our itinerary is as follows:
On this day of remembrance and mourning, I want to share with you the only National Park Service park dedicated to remembering the events of September 11, 2001: Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The story of United Airlines Flight 93 is a story of hope, courage, and unity. Eighteen years ago today, shortly after terrorists flew airliners into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Virginia, the 40 passengers and crew members on Flight 93 engaged in a battle in the sky over Pennsylvania.
These heroes fought back, thwarting a planned attack on our nation’s capital. In a field southeast of Pittsburgh, they sacrificed their lives… and in doing so, they saved the lives of countless others.
What I find most moving is that the people on that airplane voted on whether to take action. They made a democratic decision to fight back against terrorism, defending our freedom and preventing even further loss of life.
The visitor’s center at Flight 93 National Memorial offers a full glimpse of the history of this special place. Visitors can also honor and pay respects to the 40 heroes who died on this tragic day in one of the 40 Memorial Groves scattered around the area, as well as pay homage at the Memorial Plaza at the crash site.
Thanks to our members, the National Park Foundation has donated more than $6 million in support of the Tower of Voices, a ninety-three-foot-tall structure that when complete will hold forty wind chimes, representing the forty passengers and crew members who gave their lives.
If you are in the area, you might want to spend some time at Flight 93 National Memorial today. And if you aren’t nearby, you should think about planning a visit in the future … whether on September 11 or any time of year.
Sincerely,
Katherine Chesson

I made today's tour a voluntary choice for attendees as I believe the experience
of the Flight 93 Memorial should be individualized as much as possible. On September 11, 2001, terrorists seized control of 4 commercial airliners. We all know what happened and I cannot bear to repeat it even now. One plane was out
over Pennsylvania when the terrorists took control and turned the plane toward Washington, D.C., we assume hoping to crash into the White House or the Capitol Building.
The passengers, having heard through their cell phones
what was occurring in New York City and at the Pentagon, knew their lives were forfeit in any case. As true American heroes, they rallied together and with the cry of, 'Let's Roll,' attacked and overpowered the terrorists resulting in
the plane crashing into the farm fields north of Shanksville, PA. It has taken these many years to acquire property, establish services to this remote area, and build the memorial itself. There are 40 bells, one for each American who
died on this plane. They say you can hear their voices when the wind blows through them.
Souvenir shirts are available for purchase on the tour registration form. Three styles of shirts are available. All shirts are navy blue with the tour logo on the back. Available in mens and womens sizes up to 4XL. Shirts can be ordered on the registration form for delivery at the event.
Advertisers have the unique opportunity to place an ad in our tour program book. This book will be distributed to all attendees upon arrival in Gettysburg for the tour. Additional information and a subnmittal form are available in this document.
